Spiddal’s beautiful coastal landscape doesn’t just provide a magnificent backdrop for sea angling, it forms a vital part of the sport itself. Just try angling in the surf of any sandy Spiddal beach…catching mullet in the picturesque harbours…or fishing wrasse (rock fish), mackerel, pollock in the craggy coastline and you’ll see what we mean!
Ireland has another great advantage. Warm water from the Gulf stream brings a wide range of visiting species to our shore. Irish water also supports many cold water species like flounder, cod and coal fish. All in all, the sea angler has astounding choice and the opportunity to fish all year round.
The stocks of bass off the coast of Galway are now in recovery. A small number are caught each year while fishing for other species and a big improvement in the bass population is expected in years to come.
